Search team recovers woman's body
Agnes Mechen
Agnes Mechen went missing in August 2002
Police have confirmed that a woman's body has been found in a house in Govanhill on the south side of Glasgow.

A search of the flat in Jamieson Street was made after officers received new information about missing woman Agnes Mechen, who was last seen in 2002.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with her disappearance. He was expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Mrs Mechen - known as Nessa - was married with three grown-up children.

The credit agent, who was in her sixties, was last seen while visiting clients in August 2002, two streets away from the flat that police began searching on Friday.

Her brother had died just weeks earlier and psychologists initially thought the associated stress may have been connected to her disappearance.

Her bank account and pension have remained untouched.

In December last year a BBC documentary - featuring interviews with her relatives - highlighted the case.
