Trio charged with man's abduction

Three men have appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court in connection with the alleged abduction of a businessman, bringing the total charged to nine.

Javed Mukhtar, 58, was found by police in Manchester last Tuesday, three weeks after his disappearance from his Pollokshaws home.

David Smith, 37, James Kavanagh, 36 and Craig Adams, 22, face charges of abduction and conspiracy to extort.

They made no plea before being remanded in custody.

The men were arrested by police officers in the Manchester area.

Six men appeared in court on abduction and extortion charges last week.

Alan Burton, 50, Ryan Philip Birmingham, 19, and John Haining, 17, all from Manchester, appeared at the Glasgow Sheriff Court last Wednesday with Darren Wright, 31, Peter David Haining, 27, and Ian Rosales, 18, all from Bury, Lancashire.
