Six in court over man's abduction

Six men have appeared in court in Glasgow in connection with the alleged abduction of a shopkeeper from his home at gunpoint.

Javed Mukhtar, 58, was taken from his home on the south side of Glasgow last month and was found by police in Manchester on Tuesday morning.

The men from the north west of England, who are aged between 17 and 50, faced charges of extortion and abduction.

They made no plea and were remanded in custody pending further inquiries.

The men who appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court were Alan Burton, 50, Ryan Philip Birmingham, 19, and John Haining, 17, all from Manchester, and Darren Wright, 31, Peter David Haining, 27, and Ian Rosales, 18, all from Bury, Lancs.
