Sportscotland could make the leap from Edinburgh to Glasgow |
A decision on relocating the headquarters of sportscotland's must be made "as soon as possible", according to the leader of Glasgow City Council. Steven Purcell will put a motion before a full council meeting on Thursday reinforcing the case for moving the HQ from Edinburgh to Glasgow's east end.
He said the council was "concerned" at reports of a decision-making delay.
The Scottish Executive said it hoped to make an announcement on the national sports agency in the near future.
About 150 staff would be affected by any move away from the sportsscotland's HQ in South Gyle, Edinburgh.
'Real benefits'
Councillor Purcell's motion claims relocating the agency to a new national indoor arena would boost Glasgow's chances of hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
He believes it would "help speed up the regeneration of the east end".
His motion reads: "Glasgow is a great sporting city which would be an ideal location for the headquarters.
"Council believes that a decision taken in the near future can bring real benefits to Glasgow and beyond and calls on the Scottish Executive to make a decision on this issue as soon as possible."
Last week, Glasgow Shettleston MSP Frank McAveety tabled a series of parliamentary questions asking why an announcement had been delayed.
Reports suggest Scottish Liberal Democrats have expressed concerns on moving jobs from Edinburgh.
