Former Scottish Olympian Julia Bracewell has been appointed as the new chair of sportscotland. The legal consultant represented the Great Britain fencing team in the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.
The 41-year-old also won bronze medals in the event in the Commonwealth Championships in 1986 and 1990.
"I truly believe that all the building blocks are in place to make Scotland one of the best small sporting nations in the world," said Bracewell.
"The challenge now is to make it happen.
"I am delighted to have the opportunity to take up this key role in Scottish sport."
Bracewell was a member of the Sports Council of Great Britain and its successor body Sport England (1993-2001) and chaired the Women and Sport Advisory Group.
She also chaired the International Drafting Group of the Brighton Declaration on Women's Rights in Sport (1994).
Previously, Bracewell was an international corporate lawyer in the City of London for 15 years and a partner in two American law firms.
She was head of the UK corporate department of Morrison & Foerster.
Her appointment with sportscotland is for four years and runs until June 2009.
