Three routes were withdrawn by Stagecoach because of attacks
A bus company is to resume one of its services after it was withdrawn because of youths attacking the vehicles.

Three evening routes which run through the Methilhill scheme in Fife were withdrawn by Stagecoach because of a series of serious incidents.

In one, a woman was taken to hospital when a brick was thrown at the window of the bus she was a passenger on.

Drivers have been verbally abused and a bus was prevented from moving after a gang of youths surrounded it.

Services which operate after 1800 GMT on routes 13, 48 and 49 were withdrawn.

Police effort

Bus number 13 will begin running again on Monday evening after consultation with police officers.

Fife Constabulary said it was intending to send plain clothed officers onto the buses to catch troublemakers.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach East Scotland told the BBC Scotland news website: "We are working closely to monitor this with the police.

"We will see how it goes this evening."

Service 13 is a wheelchair adapted bus which runs between Kirkcaldy, East Wemyss and Leven.

Routes 48 and 49 run as a circular between Leven, Buckhaven and Kennoway.

Stagecoach has not decided whether it will reintroduce the other two evening services.

It had threatened to withdraw services completely if problems in Methilhill did not improve.
