Clamps have been placed on 28 vehicles in Kirkcaldy since November |
Police have said that 136 untaxed vehicles have been found in Kirkcaldy alone in the last two month. Wheel clamps were placed on 28 of the vehicles while owners of the rest were issued with fixed penalty notices.
A crackdown was launched by Fife Constabulary in November along with the DVLA and local traffic wardens.
The teams has said that sophisticated equipment being used means they are able to tell almost instantly whether an owner has paid the road tax.
Those vehicles which are untaxed are taken to a compound. If the owners do not pay within two weeks, the vehicle can be crushed.
Sgt Paul Rennie said: "This was an extremely useful venture and it shows the law abiding citizens who tax their vehicles that we will very quickly trace those who choose not to tax their motor vehicles."
