Derek Riordan denied assaulting the pub steward and bar manager
Celtic and Scotland striker Derek Riordan has been found not guilty of assaulting two members of staff at a pub in Edinburgh's Grassmarket.

Mr Riordan's cousin, Keith Burrell, was found not guilty of one attack and the other charge was not proven.

Both men were also found not guilty of associated breach of the peace charges.

Mr Riordan, 24, of Airth, near Falkirk, had denied assaulting the door steward and an assistant bar manager at Biddy Mulligan's pub last December.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court, the sheriff sat late into the afternoon to finish the case, which has been heard over four separate days since it began in mid-May.

Sheriff Douglas Allan found Mr Riordan not guilty of the attack on bar manager James Kennedy and not guilty of the attack on door steward Ben Mallinson, 21.

He found Mr Burrell not guilty of attacking the bar manager, and not proven on the charge of assaulting Mr Mallinson.
