Police have released an e-fit of the suspect |
Police are reviving an appeal for information a year after a teenage girl was raped during the Royal Highland Show on the outskirts of Edinburgh. They are now releasing an e-fit image of a man they want to question in connection with the incident.
Their initiative on Thursday coincides with the start of the 2007 event.
The incident happened at about 0245 BST on Saturday 24 June 2006 within the North Car Park at the Ingliston Showground.
Police officers will be handing leaflets to members of the public, exhibitors and staff attending the event.
The 17-year-old victim was making her way from the Young Farmers Disco to a caravan in the North Car Park when she was attacked by a man who subjected her to a serious sexual assault.
The suspect is white, aged between 20 and 25 years old, and had a shaved head and a line shaved into his right eyebrow.
Just before she was attacked, the girl stopped to speak to two men and two women sitting inside what is believed to be a silver Peugeot type vehicle, which was playing loud music.
Police are still appealing to these people, and anyone else who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, to come forward.
Asking for directions
Det Sgt Donald Hossack, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: "It is now a year on from the attack and we are keen to hear from anyone who might have been at the Royal Highland Show last year and remembers anything.
"We are now releasing an e-fit image of a man we want to question in relation to the incident which was very serious.
"We are keeping an open mind as to whether the culprit was a local man, or one of the many thousands of visitors to the show.
"We are particularly keen to speak to the occupants of the car, whom the victim was asking directions from."
