A 17-year-old girl who was attacked at the weekend at the Ingliston showground near Edinburgh was raped, police have confirmed. The teenager was walking from the Young Farmers Disco at the showground where the annual Royal Highland Show is held on Saturday.
The girl was walking to her caravan in the ground's North car park when the incident happened at about 0245 BST.
The attacker is described as 20 to 25 years old, with a shaved head.
Just before she was attacked, the girl stopped to speak to two men and two women sitting inside what is believed to have been a silver Peugeot and playing loud music.
Police are appealing to these people, and anyone else who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, to come forward.
A Lothian and Borders Police spokeswoman said: "This was a very serious incident and we are appealing for anyone who has any information to please contact police.
"We are keeping an open mind as to whether the culprit was a local man, or one of the many thousands of visitors to the show.
"We are particularly keen to speak to the occupants of the car, whom the victim was asking directions from.
"They had been sitting in the car playing music and may have seen the suspect hanging around."
It is understood that the girl's family had been taking part in the show, which attracts about 150,000 people each year.
