A 23-year-old drink-driver pulled handbrake turns in Edinburgh's George Street before crashing his car into a bus as he tried to escape police. The man was among 19 motorists allegedly caught over the legal limit during the first week of a festive crackdown on drink-driving.
It comes as figures fell from 26 arrests during the same period last year.
The driver on 8 December gave a positive breath test at 0800 GMT.
A fast food delivery driver was found to be three times over the drink drive limit when stopped by police.
The 30-year-old man was caught at 1100 GMT on 8 December when police officers stopped him in Bathgate, West Lothian regarding a seatbelt offence.
He was then found to be three times over the legal limit.
Ch Insp Kenny Buchanan of Lothian and Borders road policing branch, said: "We have said that our message this year is 'Don't Risk It' but motorists are still failing to listen to that message.
"It never ceases to amaze me that despite all the publicity we have had for many years over the dangers of drinking and taking drugs before driving, that some people still think it is acceptable.
"Whilst it is pleasing to note that there has been a fall in drink drivers there are still too many people out there willing to risk it.
"The consequences of driving under the influence of drink or drugs cannot be understated. Our message to anybody thinking about this is that if you drink or take drugs and drive we will catch you."
