Public sector job transfer fears
Sportscotland
sportscotland will move to Glasgow under job relocation policy
MSPs have raised fresh concerns over the Scottish Executive's policy of shifting public sector jobs away from the capital.

Finance committee members questioned whehter there was a strategy to ensure the policy targeted deprived areas.

Deputy Minister for Finance and Public Sector Reform George Lyon said he would look into the concerns.

Ministers recently decided to move sportscotland and its 130 staff from Edinburgh to Glasgow.

Relocating jobs

Mr Lyon appeared before Holyrood's finance committee on Tuesday.

Committee convener Des McNulty drew attention to figures provided by the executive, which indicated that Edinburgh had a higher proportion of its population living in Scotland's most deprived areas than the Borders.

The capital also had a lower proportion of people working in the public sector than the Borders.

John Swinney of the Scottish National Party said: "Why are we relocating jobs if the economic and partial indicator shows Edinburgh to be in this perilous position?"
