Television presenter Lorraine Kelly has lent her support to a charity event that will see her walk a marathon in her bra.

Ms Kelly will be taking part in Scotland's first MoonWalk to raise money for breast cancer research.

More than 8,000 people have signed up for the moonlight event which takes place in Edinburgh on 24 June.

The MoonWalk starts at midnight with all participants, both men and women, wearing brightly decorated bras.

They will power-walk either a "half moon" or a "full moon" marathon around the city, starting and finishing in The Meadows.

There is great camaraderie and of course it is for a very serious thing and I think you go through so many emotions during the night

Ms Kelly, who lost her grandmother to cancer, is urging members of the public to sponsor walkers and also come out on the night to help.

She said: "This will be my fifth MoonWalk but it's the first in Scotland. I think they've brought it here because so many people from Scotland wanted to take part in the London ones.

"I'm really looking forward to it. There is great camaraderie and of course it is for a very serious thing and I think you go through so many emotions during the night."

Walk the Walk

The walk's organisers at Walk the Walk are aiming to raise more than 1m from the event, with the money mostly going to Scottish breast cancer projects.

Edinburgh will be the venue for the first MoonWalk outside London, where it has been an annual event since 1998.

Walk the Walk founder Nina Barough said: "I'm delighted the MoonWalk is coming to Scotland.

"We are responding to a demand from Scottish women who have been coming all the way to our London event.

"Holding the event in Scotland means the money raised will be targeted at Scottish programmes.

Between 1998 and 2002 more than 18,000 women in Scotland were diagnosed with breast cancer.
