Proposals for a 100m investment masterplan in Dunfermline town centre have been unveiled. The revamp will include an extension of the Kingsgate Shopping Centre, a new relocated bus station for Queen Anne Street and more car parking space.
The facelift, which would be carried out over the next three or four years, follows a two-year consultation period.
The leader of Fife Council, Anne McGovern, said the renewal of the town centre was realistic and exciting.
The local authority announcement came after months of discussions between council officials and private sector developers.
Listed buildings
Under the proposals the Kingsgate Centre will be extended by 160,000 sq ft, and it will include a flagship Debenhams store.
An 80,000 sq ft superstore for Bruce Street with supporting car parking is also planned.
There are also improvements planned for Carnegie Drive and Sinclair Gardens.
The overhaul would include a new multi-storey car park for Glen Bridge.
The council said the proposal to relocate the bus station to Queen Anne Street would be central to the development.
It would also support redevelopment of the former Co-op site on the High Street which has long been a local priority, it said.
Cllr McGovern said: "These are the kinds of proposals the people of Dunfermline have been asking for and I look forward to being kept abreast of progress."
The proposals followed an announcement last week that 850,000 funding from Historic Scotland would be invested in improving key listed buildings within the town centre's conservation area.
