Best of the rest at conference

A Tory win at the next general election will be an "immensely difficult" task, the party's only Scottish MP has said.

David Mundell, the shadow Scottish Secretary, spelled out the challenge to delegates at the Conservative party conference in Perth.

He said: "We need more Conservative gains than we've had at any general election for over 75 years. Just to have a majority of one.

Mr Mundell went on to outline the scale of public debt in Britain and the Tory desire to cut spending and public sector wages.
