Blueprint sets out games legacy

The games legacy has set goals to achieve in areas like sport and health

A blueprint to ensure lasting benefit from the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow has been published by the Scottish Government.

The interim legacy plan sets out goals in areas such as sport, health, education, culture and tourism.

They will form the basis of a detailed strategy to be published next year.

Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon called on local communities to "think creatively" about how the games could benefit them.

She said: "The legacy's importance cannot be overstated. It's about more than hosting a two-week sporting festival.

"It offers us the chance to make real improvements to people's lives, to raise our sights as a nation.

"Our vision is of a legacy which helps people live longer, healthier lives, in strong, supportive communities, valuing and protecting the built and natural environment, with new and better skills development, employment and volunteering opportunities."
