Environment Department - budget plans | The rural affairs and environment department, headed up by Richard Lochhead, is in charge of rural, marine, food and environmental issues.
BUDGET STATEMENT 2007/08 This �600m-a-year plus department is also required to act as a channel for �400m in EU cash - largely as part of the Common Agricultural Policy - to Scotland's 33,000 farmers and crofters, while tackling flood prevention and waste management. Ministers, keen to secure the votes of the two Green MSPs, later proposed to boost the Climate Challenge Fund by �4.3m. Here are the main announcements: Main rural development programme - �182.4m, �191.1m and �192.7m over the three-year spending period. Scottish Natural Heritage, national park authorities and the Deer Commission for Scotland - �81.3m, �84.2m and �86.4m. Crofting support - �7.3m, �7.4m and �7.5m. Raise an additional �15m a year from sales of the national forest estate for reinvestment in woodland areas. Environment improvement funding for the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) - �13.1m, �2.8m and �3.9m. Support the development of a flood warning system. Fisheries research and protection agencies - �11.3m, �16.7m and �16.5m. Research to assist the work of environmental and rural "policymakers and practitioners" - about �70m per year.
MAIN SNP MANIFESTO PLEDGES Climate Change Bill with mandatory carbon reduction targets of 3% per annum and also set a long-term target of cutting emissions by a minimum of 80% by 2050 - above the UK target of 60%.�1m Scottish Energy Efficiency Design Awards, instituted in the first 100 days of the SNP Government. �10m farming new entrants scheme.Permanent Scottish Fisheries Council, comprising industry representatives.
