Thousands of people have been enticed to the Scottish Parliament as Edinburgh hosts this year's Festival of Politics. Presiding Officer George Reid said the event had been "enormously successful".
Speakers have included satirist Armando Iannucci, politicians Tam Dalyell and Sir Menzies Campbell and Rachel Elnaugh of the BBC's Dragons' Den programme.
A Holyrood spokeswoman said 6,000 people had visited the parliament itself over the first three days, with 2,400 attending festival events.
Historian Dan Snow, journalist and broadcaster George Alagiah and BBC weather presenter Heather Reid were among the guests on Saturday, the last day of the festival.
Mr Reid said: "This year's Festival of Politics has been enormously successful with practically every ticket snapped up so far.
"For those who say the public do not care about politics, I would challenge them to come to our events and join in the lively and informed debate."
Speaking after his lecture, Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies said: "The bigger the opportunity for people to come into this building, then the healthier the state of Scottish politics."
