T in the Park chiefs praise fans

The organisers of Scotland's biggest music festival - T in the Park - have praised the fans for making it the best year so far with the fewest arrests.

From Friday night when campers arrived up until Sunday morning there had been just 35 arrests among the 75,000 people attending the two-day event.

About 250 people attended the festival hospital with "minor injuries".

Several more people were treated for trying to climb the cordon fence at the sell-out event at Balado near Kinross.

Rock legends The Who brought down the curtain on the 13th T in the Park festival on Sunday night.

Pete Townshend told the crowd: "It's an honour to be back in Scotland and to be at this fantastic festival."

Record deal

One of the first artists to kick off events at the main stage on Sunday was Sandi Thom, from Banff in Aberdeenshire, who described her acoustic performance as a "homecoming" and thanked fans for their support.

Thom had a number-one hit with I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker after webcasts of her gigs won her a record deal.

She said: "It's been awesome, playing the main stage. It's one of the things that you talk about when you are younger, playing T in the Park.

"Being on the main stage was phenomenal, it's a great compliment.

"The Scottish crowd are always fantastic and I've never played to a better crowd than in Scotland."

Scottish duo the Proclaimers took to the main stage after a short downpour.

The Reid Brothers entertained the crowd for nearly an hour and got one of the biggest roars of the weekend, belting out hits such as Letter from America and I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles).

Charlie Reid said: "This is the third time we have played T in the Park.

"The people are extremely welcoming and it's extremely loud. The Scots always make a lot of noise and the bands get that, and in turn they play better."

Also rocking the main stage was Fightstar, fronted by former Busted singer Charlie Simpson.

Meanwhile, T in the park organisers announced that tickets for the 2007 festival would go on sale on Tuesday 11 July, just 48 hours after the end of this year's event.

Some 30,000 tickets for T in the Park 2007, which will again be held at Balado, will go on sale at 2006 prices by telephone and on the internet at 0900 BST.
