The Wickerman festival traditionally ends with a fire ritual |
A farm shed fire has killed a number of animals at the venue for the annual Wickerman music festival. The blaze broke out at East Kirkcarswell farm near Kirkcudbright late on Thursday night.
A number of sheep and lambs as well as a sheepdog were killed in the incident, which destroyed the shed used for storage during the festival.
The cult music event traditionally concludes with a fire ritual burning of a giant wicker man.
The festival and farm owner Jamie Gilroy was alerted to the fire by one of his sheepdogs.
"We were wakened by the sound of Gus barking and that allowed us to alert the local fire brigade who were on the scene within minutes," he said.
"The fire was quickly extinguished but unfortunately the shed was completely destroyed and we have a few casualties.
"Gus was badly burned about the face and we are now trying to save his sight."
Thousands of fans attend the two-day event which was started as an alternative to more mainstream festivals.
It will take place for the fourth time this summer on 21 and 22 July.
