A 25ft high wicker man was burned on Saturday night |
Sparks flew as a music festival drew to a fiery close in the south west of Scotland. Thousands of people descended on the 120-acre site near Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway for the third Wickerman event.
The festival, which was inspired by the horror film of the same name, featured Alabama 3, the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Dreadzone and The Stranglers.
The event's finale was the burning of a 25ft tall wicker man.
Created by Trevor Leat and Alex Rigg, it was constructed over a period of weeks by volunteers.
The burning of the wicker man echoes the most famous scene from the 1972 film of the same name, which stars Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee and was shot at the nearby Isle of Whithorn.
Thousands of people attended the two-day festival |
The festival began as an alternative to large-scale events like T in the Park, and has now established itself as part of the summer festival calendar.
About 10,000 people had been expected to attend the event, which featured more than 30 performers spread over seven stages.
Organisers bill the festival as a family event, with free entry for under-14s accompanied by an adult.
The attractions included a children's area along with the traditional trade stalls, bars and dance and chill-out tents.
The two-day festival, which ended on Saturday evening, also featured stages devoted to reggae, acoustic music and the "scooter stage", which offered a mix of punk, ska and Northern Soul.
