The Newton Stewart community heard the plans for its secondary
The head teacher at a school which was the subject of a critical inspection report has outlined action plans to turn around its fortunes.

Alex Cowie was addressing a meeting in Newton Stewart over concerns raised about the Douglas Ewart High School.

It failed in almost all the quality categories highlighted in a recent inspection report.

Mr Cowie said staff, parents and the community all had a part to play in improving the secondary school.

The school's assembly hall was packed with people keen to hear what was being done to address the inspection concerns.

"I think that staff and the community now realise that they are part of this and that nobody is working against anyone else," said Mr Cowie.

"I think that is the positive message that has to be put out.

"We are striving towards an inclusive school community within Douglas Ewart High School and I think the message was that we want everybody to be a part of that."
