Brother makes kidnapping appeal
Stewart Ramsay
Stewart Ramsay said he misses his brother "terribly"
The brother of a 51-year-old accountant abducted near his Glasgow home has made a public appeal for his release.

Stewart Ramsay, 44, made the plea six days after his brother Andrew was abducted by two men posing as plain clothed police officers.

He said: "All we want is for Andrew to come home safely - that's all that matters. If someone is holding Andrew against his will please release him."

Mr Ramsay was bundled into a car in Cardonald at 1900 GMT on Wednesday.

Stewart Ramsay described his brother as a "mild-mannered, friendly person, well-loved by all".

He said his father's health is suffering due to the "strain and anguish".

"As time goes by, our concerns increase," he said.

"Naturally, we are all very concerned for his safety and well-being and miss him terribly.

"Our lives have been turned upside down.

"I would appeal to anyone with any information whatsoever to get in touch with the police."

Mr Ramsay also made a direct appeal to his brother to get in touch.

He said: "If by any chance Andrew has been released and is perhaps apprehensive for whatever reason of returning home, then I implore him to get in touch with someone.

"That's the news we are desperate to hear."

Possible 'vendetta'

This appeal was reiterated by Detective Superintendent Willie Prendergast who is leading the investigation.

He said: "Andrew, if by any chance you have been released and you are out there, your family is going through absolute anguish and torture.

"Please, please get in touch.

"If anyone is holding him against his will, this has gone on too long."

Concern is mounting for Andrew Ramsay's safety

Det Supt Prendergast said the crime may be linked to "some form of vendetta".

It is believed that Mr Ramsay had been due to appear in court as a witness in a criminal trial.

Police confirmed reports he had been questioned by customs officers.

The father-of-two has a background in accountancy but had been unemployed for six months.

Police have had one unconfirmed siting of Mr Ramsay in the company of other men on the border of north and south Yorkshire on Friday.

The incident room has received 40 calls from members of the public.

A 'mystery'

No-one appears to have witnessed the abduction other than the female friend Mr Ramsay was walking with. He was targeted as they walked in Berryknowes Road on Wednesday evening.

The abduction was not immediately reported to police because the individuals were so convincing.

Police are "desperately" trying to trace witnesses.

Det Supt Prendergast revealed that he had considered whether Mr Ramsay had staged the kidnapping but said that would have been "elaborate".

He added: "It is a full scale abduction inquiry.

"It is very unusual, it is a mystery."
