Andrew Ramsay was with his partner when he was bundled into a car |
A man kidnapped in Glasgow was due to appear in court as a witness in a criminal trial. Andrew Ramsay, 51, was abducted while walking with his partner near their home in Berryknowes Road, Cardonald, at about 1900 GMT on Wednesday.
Two men claimed to be plain clothed police officers and said they were placing Mr Ramsay under arrest before bundling him into a car.
Police said their immediate concern was Mr Ramsay's safety and well being.
'Making enquiries'
Neighbour Thomas McKenzie, who said he had spoken to Mr Ramsay's partner after the incident, said: "This black car did a U-turn in the middle of the road and came over and stopped him, and they (the men) actually said 'are you Mr so-and-so' and 'are you Mrs so-and-so' and that they were with the fraud squad.
"They just piled him into the back of the car and took him away.
The man was abducted quite close to his home in Cardonald |
"The woman was devastated and we're shocked. You think something like this only ever happens on television."
Detective Superintendent Willie Prendergast said: "We are still making enquiries to establish why this abduction occurred.
"All efforts are ongoing to trace him.
"I appeal to anyone who may have any information to contact the incident room at Govan police office."
Police said enquiries had established that the men were not police officers or from any other law enforcement agency.
