Building work on a new 16.5m pool and leisure complex in Dumfries is facing a finance-related delay.

Construction at the Hoods Loaning site will have to wait until grant awards from two bodies are confirmed.

Sport Scotland and the South of Scotland European Partnership have yet to officially give their financial backing to the plans.

However, the council's director of corporate services Les Jardine said he expected it to come through soon.

The building was hoped to be completed by autumn 2007 and include a national competition size swimming pool, multi-purpose sports hall and 1,200-seater event venue.
