The Kingston Bridge carries some 180,000 vehicles a day

The Stobcross on-ramp to the Kingston Bridge was closed for almost a year while an �11m programme of repairs and strengthening work was carried out.

The link, which carries traffic from the Clydeside Expressway onto the Kingston Bridge, reopened on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a 12-week programme of work on the White Cart Viaduct has been confirmed to start on 10 February.

The Kingston Bridge, which was opened in 1970, carries some 180,000 vehicles a day.

Robert Booth, director of Glasgow City Council's land services, said: "I'm sure everyone who uses the Kingston Bridge will welcome the reopening of the Stobcross ramp to ease traffic flow in the area."

There are predictions of delays when work starts at White Cart

The �3.8m White Cart project will upgrade the section of the M8 beside Glasgow Airport, with the prospect of huge delays.

Jim Gilmour from engineering firm Amey: "Sadly we do anticipate significant disruption to traffic, but we're hoping with the help of motorists that will settle down over the early days and people will fit into a routine during the 12-week duration of the work.

"We've done everything to analyse the impact on congestion by traffic modelling, but clearly there will be queues."

The work is designed to improve safety standards and access for maintenance.
