The latest phase of roadworks on one of Europe's busiest bridges is set to get under way, with motorists being warned that delays will last for a year. Work will begin on Saturday on the �11m project to refurbish and strengthen the Stobcross on-ramp to the Kingston Bridge in Glasgow.
The on-ramp will be closed, along with the bridge's westbound nearside lane.
There will be no access from the M8 motorway westbound carriageway to the West Street off-ramp.
The other four westbound lanes will remain open during the day, as will one lane of the West Street off-ramp.
Heavier vehicles
However, there will be some overnight closures affecting traffic travelling across the bridge west towards Glasgow Airport.
The Stobcross on-ramp - which climbs to 20 metres at its highest point to link eastbound traffic on the Clydeside Expressway with the M8 westbound - currently has a 7.5 tonne weight restriction.
The upgrade will enable it to take heavier vehicles.
The latest work follows the successful strengthening of the main bridge in 2000, replacement of the Stobcross off-ramp in 2003 and upgrading work in 2004.
