More than 100 jobs are likely to be lost at the Edinburgh-based Jenners department store, staff have been told. It follows the �200m takeover by the House of Fraser group earlier this year.
A spokesman for House of Fraser said that the move was the result of the integration of the businesses.
He added that it was highly regrettable but every effort would be made to redeploy staff round House of Fraser outlets or to help them in other ways.
The Jenners employees at risk are mostly in head office roles dealing with finance, distribution, buying and merchandising.
Jenners has four shops in Scotland, with its headquarters in Princes Street the oldest independent department store in the world. It opened in the 1830s.
About 750 staff work at Jenners outlets in Edinburgh, Loch Lomond shore and Glasgow and Edinburgh airports.
