Protesters thinking of blocking roads at the G8 summit in Perthshire have been warned off by the area's MP. Annabelle Ewing claimed "a fringe element" of protesters might try to close the main A9 road which runs close to the Gleneagles Hotel.
The Scottish National Party MP for Perth said it was essential that those who wished to protest "respect the interests of local residents".
She added: "Protest is a basic right. But my constituents have rights too."
'Breaking the law'
Ms Ewing claimed there had been "some talk" among fringe and anarchist protesters about blocking roads at the July summit.
But blocked roads would impede police, ambulance and fire services, a situation that would be "totally unacceptable", she said.
The SNP MP added: "I know that the vast majority of those who wish to protest against Messrs Bush and Blair will respect the interests of locals, and also would not dream of breaking the law.
"But there is a fringe element, who may opt to try to close the A9 or other road.
"This is not on. If any such attempt is made, then of course the police would have to take appropriate action."
