Dinner ladies make equality claim
School meals
Many catering staff had hoped for pay rises under the review
Dinner ladies who have lodged an equal pay claim against Aberdeen City Council will be meeting local Labour MP Anne Begg to discuss the action.

The school catering staff are objecting to the withdrawal of a council-wide salary shake-up which would have given many of them pay rises.

The review was scrapped after thousands of employees complained about pay cuts.

However, it left the council open to legal claims that women were being paid less than men.

The catering staff's equal pay claims were among hundreds lodged at an industrial tribunal earlier this month by city council employees.

The threat of industrial action was withdrawn last month after the council withdrew letters sent to about 2,000 workers warning that they faced pay cuts under the new legislation.
