Glasgow Airport was the busiest in Scotland last month |
A record number of passengers for September flew from Scotland's airports last month, according to statistics. Almost two million people - a rise of 5% - took off from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports.
Glasgow was the busiest with increasing numbers visiting Orlando and Dubai. Aberdeen is Scotland's fastest growing airport, the figures show.
A BAA spokesman said it would invest 500m to expand all three airports to meet growing demand.
Glasgow Airport handled almost nine million of the 20 million passengers who used Scottish airports over the last year.
Aberdeen Airport accounted for a 10% rise in passenger numbers on September last year and a 8.2% rise in numbers over the year as a whole.
 | At all three airports, the picture is extremely positive, with international traffic growing substantially |
Bergen in Norway and the Danish city of Esbjerg were the most popular international destinations.
BAA Scotland said international travel had contributed to an increase in passenger numbers at Edinburgh Airport.
Numbers rose by 6.9% last month and 6.2% over the year, with Nice and Copenhagen among the top spots.
BAA Scotland said it hoped to expand each of the airports to meet the increasing demand.
Managing director Donal Dowds said: "At all three airports, the picture is extremely positive, with international traffic growing substantially.
"Clearly, our airports will need to expand to meet that demand and BAA Scotland will deliver the necessary investment, some 500m over the next 10 years, to allow our airports to develop.
"Our aim is to build world-class airports serving a wider range of worldwide destinations."
