A major Hogmanay music event near Edinburgh which had hoped to attract 25,000 people has been cancelled. The Highland Gathering at Ingliston was billed as the largest indoor New Year's Eve party in the UK.
However, the Royal Highland Centre said it had terminated "by default" its contractual agreement with organisers U4Ria Promotions Limited.
The venue said it and Edinburgh City Council had been unable to contact U4Ria despite repeated attempts.
The Highland Gathering was supposed to be playing host to acts like Supergrass, The Levellers and Lee "Scratch" Perry, as well as a number of top DJs.
Repeated efforts
In a statement, the venue said it regretted the cancellation of the event.
It said: "The Royal Highland Centre is disappointed that the event will not go ahead but this is due to circumstances totally outwith its control and despite repeated efforts to avoid withdrawal of the venue's facilities.
"The failure of the event organisers to meet their contractual agreements and the withdrawal of support and services by the City of Edinburgh Council emergency planning and organisation group means that the use of the venue has become unviable."
Agencies in Edinburgh are concerned about the impact any cancellation could have on the city's reputation as a Hogmanay tourist destination.
However, they have stressed that the official street party and concert in Princes Street Gardens are still going ahead as planned.
