A stray bullet killed Alistair while he slept in his pram |
Scottish duo The Proclaimers are to stage a concert in memory of the toddler who was killed by a stray bullet in a gunfight in Turkey. A man has gone on trial in Turkey accused of killing two-year-old Alistair Grimason, from East Kilbride.
His parents, David and Ozlem, have been travelling back and forth to Turkey since the tragedy happened in July.
Proclaimer twins Charlie and Craig Reid hope funds raised at the gig will help pay for air fares and legal costs.
Mr and Mrs Grimason were told the trial in Izmir will involve at least five "sittings".
Greatly affected
As well as the travel expenses the couple will also have to pay legal fees and are looking to hire a criminal lawyer to explain the events in court.
Other participating artists, including Deacon Blue frontman Ricky Ross, said they were greatly affected by the tragic event and have agreed to offer their services for free.
Mr Grimason said that although people wanted to give them money, the concert was a better way of helping their situation as people would get "something in return".

Toddler Alistair had been with his mother and his grandmother as they enjoyed a meal during a family holiday in the resort of Foca. He was asleep in his pram when the gunfight broke out on 7 July, 2003.
A stray bullet pierced his heart, killing him instantly.
Daimi Akyuz, 32, admits firing the gun which killed Alistair but denies murder, claiming it was an accident.
The trial, which could last up to a year, was adjourned after the first day to 20 February.
The How I Wonder concert will be held at the Carnegie Hall in Dunfermline on Sunday, 29 February.
Alistair's parents took poignant words from his favourite song, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, as the title for the concert.
