Alistair Grimason was hit by a stray bullet |
The parents of a toddler shot dead as he slept in his pram are flying out to Turkey to prepare for the trial of his alleged killer. Two-year-old Alistair Grimison was killed after a gunfight broke out in a cafe in the resort of Foca in July.
Turkish police arrested "prime suspect" Daimi Akyuz in September. He will go on trial for murder on Thursday.
Alistair's parents, David and Ozlem, from East Kilbride, were flying out from Glasgow on Saturday.
Mr Akyuz, 32, is reported to have confessed, saying he regretted Alistair's death and would mourn for him all of his life.
Before leaving Scotland, Mr Grimason said he was unsure how both he and his Turkish wife would react when they set eyes on the accused.
The 32-year-old said: "It is something I have been trying to block out until now.
"I was brought up to be calm but I don't know what our emotions will be at that time.
"We don't look forward to seeing him at all."
Mr Grimason said he has been told the case could take five one-day sittings, but they are likely to be spread over a 12-month period.

After the tragedy, the couple started collecting signatures for a petition urging the Turkish authorities to overhaul the country's lax gun laws. They have collected 100,000 signatures and plan to present the petition to the Turkish prime minister at some point during the trial.
Mr Grimason said the nature of the judicial system meant that he and Ozlem, 29, might have to make five separate trips to Izmir, where the trial is being heard.
As well as travel expenses, the couple will also have to pay legal fees and are looking to hire a criminal lawyer who will explain what is happening in court to them.
"The British Consulate have offered us an interpreter but we also want to recruit a criminal lawyer who will act as a translator," Mr Grimason said.
"I want to know every single detail of what is going on."
Alistair had been with his mother and his grandmother as they enjoyed a meal during a family holiday.
He was asleep in his pram when the gunfight broke out on 7 July. A stray bullet pierced his heart, killing him instantly.
Another man, Ali Bektas, was also killed in the shootout which led to Alistair's death while two other men were injured.
Mr Akyuz will also face charges in relation to these three men, according to a Turkish embassy spokesman.
