Bakery toasts expansion plan
Adam Marson
Adam Marson is proud of the company's record
A bakery has announced plans to double the capacity of its operation at Bellshill in Lanarkshire.

The Warburtons plant will be able to produce an extra 900,000 loaves each week, taking production to 1.5 million.

The 14m extension will take about 10 months to complete. Warburtons expects to create about 50 jobs over the next year as the company expands.

General manager Scotland Adam Marson said the second plant reinforced Warburtons' commitment to Scotland.

The company employs 230 staff at Bellshill and 30 in Aberdeen.

Mr Marson said: "The building of a second plant is recognition of what has been achieved in a relatively short space of time by the teams at Bellshill and in our Aberdeen depot.

"The development will enable us to bake even more high-quality fresh bread for Scottish consumers and eventually expand the range of products we produce at Bellshill."

Warburtons moved into Scotland seven years ago and claims a 32.2% share of spend in the marketplace.
