| Thursday, 14 June, 2001, 16:00 GMT 17:00 UK Booming bakery raises spirits ![]() Warburtons have invested millions in the bakery A state-of-the-art bakery in the West Midlands has created hundreds of jobs. Warburtons is already planning further investment at its plant at Moorcroft Park in Wednesbury. The new bakery was officially opened on Thursday. Jonathan Warburton, chairman of Warburtons, said: "It's surprised us how successful it's been." The eight-acre site in Wednesbury is now fully operational.
It delivers to stores as far afield as Cheshire in the north and Gloucestershire in the south, making 450,000 loaves a week. Mr Warburton said: "We've already spent �17m and we're continuing to invest. "That hopefully will bring more jobs both from the manufacturing perspective but also on the distribution side." The company has created 200 jobs in Wednesbury with another 150 to follow in the future. The next major recruitment drive will take place in the new year, when the company is planning to build an extension to the bakery. |
