The sessions offer safe surfing trips |
The children's charity, NCH Scotland, is offering free internet safety seminars in a chain of electrical stores. This is the first time the charity has teamed up with a high-street retailer for an education drive of this nature.
NCH hopes to use the in-store sessions at Comet to help raise awareness of the internet and possible dangers to children.
The first seminars will run in Comet's Paisley branch in Washington Road.
Each session will be accompanied by a free leaflet which contains practical tips for parents and teachers. It also details a step-by-step guide to finding out the last websites that were visited via a particular computer.
NCH's internet safety adviser, John Carr, said: "The internet is a fantastic resource for parents and children, and with the new term starting, every child of school age will have access to the internet at some point.
"It is therefore imperative that parents know about the technology, including how to advise their children on being safe.
"NCH has run similar seminars in schools before, but this is the first time we have had access to parents, children and teachers through a retailer so we are very excited and confident that, we will be reaching a lot more people."
Helen Wood, manager of Comet's Paisley store, said: "The seminars are an excellent idea because our customers do have concerns about their children using the internet, especially as many of them know less than their kids about the technology."
