Loch Lomond shores has been open for a year |
The gateway to Scotland's first national park, Loch Lomond Shores, is celebrating its first anniversary. More than 850,000 visitors have been to the retail centre in the last 12 months putting it in the top 10 Scottish tourist attractions.
Princess Anne gave the royal seal of approval to the visitor centre on the bonnie banks at the opening ceremony last year.
Most of the shops are now operating and negotiations are under way for the remaining retail outlets.
Industrial land
There are a number of events taking place on Thursday including, weather permitting, a display by the golden lions freefall parachute team; a birthday party for 100 local children and a ceilidh.
So far, more than 350 jobs have been created on the site itself, and there are plans for another 550 with the west riverside development linking Loch Lomond Shores to Balloch.
The centre is built on reclaimed industrial land - originally sand and gravel workings and a silk dye factory.
Scottish Enterprise Dunbartonshire said the project was on target to exceed one million visitors each year once the development was fully operational, and would provide new prosperity for the local area.
