A rambler arrested during a naked walk from Land's End to John O'Groats has had a case against him dropped due to lack of evidence. Steve Gough, 44, was arrested in Newquay, Cornwall, on 21 June just a few days after starting his 847-mile trek dressed only in hat, socks, boots and a rucksack.
He was charged with a public order offence and listed to appear before magistrates in Bodmin, Cornwall on Thursday.
But the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the case against Gough due to insufficient evidence.
Gough is currently on remand in prison in Inverness pending a trial at Dingwall Sheriff Court for breaching the peace while on bail.
Protest planned
He was due to appear before the court in Newquay next week in relation to two further charges of causing a public order offence on 20 June and behaving in an indecent manner in the town's police station on the same day.
These charges were also withdrawn due to lack of evidence.
The personal freedom campaigner from Chamberlyne Road, Eastleigh, Hampshire, set off on his walk on 16 June in order to publicise his campaign for a change in the laws on nudity.
According to an announcement posted on the campaigner's website today, his supporters plan to hold a walk in London on Saturday in protest at his imprisonment.
The "Freedom to be Yourself" campaign group aims to set off from Selfridge's on Oxford Street at 1430 BST for the protest walk.
