Tony Bennett will round off the jazz festival

About 5,000 people were expected to pack the city's George Square for Sunday night's concert.

The festival, now in its 17th year, has had to move events to George Square after one of its main venues became unavailable.

But organisers believe the city centre location has helped boost audiences, which have been double previous years.

Organisers also said that free shows have brought in hundreds of new jazz fans.

"It allows people who maybe haven't heard jazz music before to come along and taste it for free and to hear high quality music for nothing basically," said the festival's Olive Millen.

"But we've also still got our big international programme."

All the tickets for Mr Bennett's Sunday night show have sold out.

Flower shop owner Lillian Kelly has seen every date the crooner has played in Scotland since 1965.

She believes he has what it takes to challenge any modern performer.

"We're talking about talent when you talk about Mr Bennett, he's not a flash in the pan, he's been there, he'll be there forever," she said.
