The music festival is in its 10th year

Music fans snapped up the last remaining tickets on Friday - eight days before the annual festival at Balado, near Kinross, Perthshire, gets under way.

Demand saw the briefs sell faster than in any other year in the event's history, despite an extra 5,000 tickets being made available.

More than 100,000 music fans who attend next weekend's festival will get to see top bands including REM, Coldplay, The White Stripes, Feeder and The Streets.

'Record time'

Within the grounds there will be nine stages, six bars, a funfair and campsite.

Geoff Ellis, head of promoters DF Concerts, said: "We are all extremely proud that T in the Park has sold out in record time on its 10th birthday.

"2003 has already been a great year for us and for live music in Scotland, and T in the Park will undoubtedly be the highlight for music fans. We look forward to seeing everyone there."

Coldplay are one of the headline acts

George Kyle, sponsorship head at Tennent's, said the festival had a "fantastic line-up".

He said: "A big thank you must also go to the thousands of music fans who make up the fantastic Balado crowd, as T in the Park wouldn't be what it is without their passionate support."

The first T in the Park event was held in 1994 at Strathclyde Country Park and has gone from strength to strength with organisers estimating it now generates about �2m for the economy.
