A man charged in connection with the death of five-year-old Danielle Reid has been treated for injuries sustained in prison.

Lee Gaytor, 26, was found with cuts to his wrists while on remand at Porterfield Prison, in Inverness, on Thursday.

He was taken to the city's Raigmore Hospital and was then returned to the prison.

A Scottish Prison Service spokeswoman confirmed: "A prisoner was taken to hospital yesterday morning and was taken back to the prison later on in the afternoon."

Danielle Reid's body was found in a canal

Danielle's mother Tracy Reid, 24, boyfriend Gaytor, both of Argyle Street, Inverness, appeared in private at the city's sheriff court on Wednesday in connection with her death.

Also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice in connection with the disappearance of Danielle from the city was Gaytor's brother Christopher Gaytor, 23, of Morvich Way, Inverness.

Danielle was reported missing on Hogmanay and a child's body was found in the Caledonian Canal by police divers searching for her on Tuesday.

All three are due to appear in court again next week.

On Friday, prayers were said for Danielle at Crown Primary School, which she attended in Inverness.

The morning assembly service at the school was led by the Reverend Peter Donald, the minister at the nearby Church of Scotland Crown Church.

Detectives have been awaiting the results of a post-mortem on the child's body, which was found in the Muirtown Basin area of the canal.
