Woman crushed while de-icing car
Child being pulled on sledge
Some parts of the UK have already seen snow
A mother-of-two has died after being crushed by a car which she was de-icing.

Karen Docherty suffered fatal head and abdominal injuries after she was trapped under her own vehicle shortly before 1200 GMT on Monday.

The accident happened in the sloping driveway at her house in Clovis Duveau Drive on the outskirts of Dundee.

Mrs Docherty, who was found by a passerby, is understood to have been scraping ice from the vehicle when the accident took place.

Drivers have been warned about conditions
A spokeswoman for Tayside Police confirmed that officers had been alerted to a "serious incident".

"As the result of the accident, a woman was taken by ambulance to hospital but she later died from her injuries," she said.

The incident came as the Met Office warned drivers of icy conditions in most parts of the country.

It said that temperatures on roads in Strathclyde, Central, Lothian and Borders and Dumfries and Galloway were expected to remain below freezing.

A spokesperson said there was a risk of frost and ice on roads, with a possibility of patches of freezing fog near rivers and lochs.

Scramble back

Meanwhile, two children have been rescued from a pond after falling through the ice.

The pair were taken to safety by firefighters after they managed to reach an island in Callander Park in Falkirk.

The youngsters were treated for cold and shock at Falkirk Royal Infirmary.

A dog which fell through the ice at Straiton Pond Nature Reserve in Midlothian later in the day reached safety after being persuaded to scramble back onto the ice by emergency crews.

Scottish glens

The black Labrador, called Magic, was treated by a vet at the scene.

Harsh frosts have been predicted across the UK, with warnings that temperatures could fall as low as minus 10C in some areas.

The Scottish glens were expected to see the lowest temperatures on Monday night.

Temperatures of minus 5C were forecast in Glasgow, while Manchester was expected to reach minus 4C and Birmingham minus 3C.
