| Saturday, 2 November, 2002, 14:18 GMT Halloween howler scuppers Gates date ![]() Gates visited the house on Hallowe'en A teenage Gareth Gates fan missed out on a surprise visit from her idol - because her father had the television on too loud. Peter Dragoonis did not hear the singer ringing the doorbell because he had his television on at full volume as he watched Celtic's clash with Blackburn Rovers. By the time his daughter Lisa returned home Gates had given up and gone - leaving a photograph and a message in the letterbox.
She said: "I am absolutely gutted. I am his biggest fan and have been since the start of Pop Idol. "I haven't got over this and I'm not going to speak to my dad for ages." Gates travelled to the teenager's home in Giffnock, near Glasgow, on Thursday while in Scotland performing with fellow Pop Idol stars Will Young and Zoe Birkett. Unknown to Lisa, she had won a competition on the singer's official website. When he failed to get any answer at the house Gates left a photograph showing him dressed up in a phantom of the opera costume. Television blaring Underneath he wrote: "To Lisa, I popped in to say hello but you weren't in! Lots of love, Gareth." Mr Dragoonis, a 45-year-old salesman, admitted that he would be "in the dog house for ages". He said: "Lisa mentioned the fact that she had entered this competition to her mother but not to me. "When the match started I turned the lights off and had the telly blaring so when the doorbell rang I didn't hear it. "When she came home 10 minutes later the air turned blue. She was beside herself." | See also: 28 Oct 02 | Entertainment 28 Oct 02 | Entertainment 28 Oct 02 | Entertainment 29 Sep 02 | Entertainment Top Scotland stories now: Links to more Scotland stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
