| Sunday, 25 August, 2002, 17:13 GMT 18:13 UK Fans digging city's Gig ![]() Fans have enjoyed a sun-soaked feast of music Thousands of fans have been enjoying the second day of Glasgow's Gig on the Green music festival. Pulp, Stereo MCs and New York band The Strokes were the big name acts at a sun-soaked Glasgow Green. Despite reduced ticket sales, organisers said Saturday's show was a success and Sunday's event appeared to have drawn a larger crowd. There was a big turnout early on for hotly-tipped new band The Vines and The White Stripes.
The line-up for the second day also featured Feeder and the Reindeer Section, a Scottish amalgam of different bands, including Mogwai, Idlewild and Belle and Sebastian. The average of Sunday's revellers appeared to have risen; a possible result of the more mature line-up on offer. There was a distinctly metallic sheen to Saturday's acts with bands like Slipknot, Amen and Trail of Dead mixing it with more established acts like The Prodigy. Slipknot proved a hard act to follow for The Prodigy who wound up Saturday's show. Sold in advance They played a number of new songs, as well as old favourites including Firestarter and Breathe, during a set which lasted just over an hour. Former All Saints singer Natalie Appleton, whose husband is The Prodigy's songwriter and keyboard-sampler Liam Howlett, watched on from the side of the stage, along with her sister Nicole. Organisers of the event, which has seen a slump in ticket sales, said about 11,500 Saturday tickets were sold in advance, and they estimated that about people 15,000 attended. Strathclyde Police put the figure at just over 10,000. |
