Scots shoppers head for Harvey Nicks
Harvey Nichols Leeds
Crowds flocked to the opening of the Leeds store
Dozens of fashion fans queued for the opening of Harvey Nichols' new store in Edinburgh.

More than 150 people waited for drag act Kandi Kane to officially open the store in the Scottish capital's St Andrew's Square.

The comic thumped on the glass doors at 1000BST on Thursday having emerged from her tent which she pitched outside overnight.

The Edinburgh Festival performer cut the ribbon with representatives of the upmarket store before shoppers swept through the doors.

The London store will remain the flagship

Shopper Lesley Anne Fyvie left Aberdeen at 0400BST to arrive in time for the opening.

The admin assistant, who was accompanied by her mother Daisy, said: "There's absolutely nothing in Aberdeen and me and my mother love shopping so we just had to be here."

Another eager shopper, Paula Elden said she was "very excited" about the opening.

The insurance worker from Edinburgh said: "They've got make-up and labels that you just can't find anywhere else in Scotland.

"Normally I'd have to travel through to Glasgow to shop but not any more."

The five-storey 90,000sq ft store is the chain's second-biggest in the UK, behind its 225,000sq ft Knightsbridge flagship.

A fifth UK store is due to open in Manchester next year.

The store in Scotland's capital has been hailed by council chiefs as the biggest single retail investment in the city in three decades.

Edinburgh City Council leader Donald Anderson said the opening of the store would help regenerate the Scottish capital's east end.

Next month, actor Ewan McGregor will headline a celebrity launch of the 20m store.
