The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) on Friday announced it was closing the investigation into the Lanarkshire-based firm which began last year. The OFT said it did not believe further investigation would find any evidence that Wiseman was abusing its position to control prices or manipulate the market. The OFT was looking at milk supply to the middle market, which includes convenience stores and corner shops, in Scotland. A spokesman said it was likely the middle-ground market in Scotland is separate from that in England and that Wiseman has a dominant position. He said: "However, after an extensive and thorough investigation, the OFT takes the view that further investigation is unlikely to lead to a finding of abuse. "In these circumstances, the OFT cannot justify proceeding with the case." | See also: 08 Apr 02 | Scotland 14 Sep 01 | Scotland 25 Jun 01 | Scotland 17 May 01 | Scotland Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Scotland stories now: Links to more Scotland stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
