Supplies were disrupted in the south side of the city on Thursday morning.

The burst pipes in Eglinton Street and Pollokshaws Road supply 30,000 homes and businesses.

A few thousand of these were thought to have been left entirely without water.

Others were left with discoloured water or a trickle coming through their taps, although some of these were also without water for short periods of time.

The bursts took place early on Thursday morning and supplies were restored during the afternoon.

The work to fix the problem has led to traffic delays on one of the main routes south of the Clyde.

Scottish Water took over responsibility for Scotland's water supply in April after the merger of the three former water companies serving the east, west and north.

Damaged pipes

The authority said burst pipes would continue to be a problem until the old network of pipes has been replaced.

It said the two damaged mains date back to the Victorian era and are examples of years of under-investment in the sector.
