Special events to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee have been getting under way in Scotland.

A series of parties and musical events have been planned to mark the Queen's 50 years on the throne.

While London will be the focal point for many of the festivities over the Jubilee holiday, Scotland will see a range of celebrations and commemorations.

On Sunday, the Princess Royal was due to attend a thanksgiving service at St Columba Church in Ayr.

The church has been marking its centenary and the Princess was due to unveil a new stain glass window.

She was then expected to visit a marquee where members of the congregation were due to join 500 guests for lunch.

Organisers in Edinburgh have been putting the final touches to the centrepiece Scottish event on Monday.

A Golden Jubilee party will take place in the city's Princes Street Gardens, with hundreds of people expected to attend.

Karen Matheson, of Capercaillie, will lead the musical celebrations ahead of the lighting of a beacon, one of a chain being lit around the UK.

In Dundee, garden parties will take place in Camperdown Country Park, Baxter Park and Castle Green, Broughty Ferry, on Monday afternoon.

Events are also being held in Falkirk, Ullapool and Glasgow over the weekend.

Singer Bryan Ferry played a Jubilee concert in Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, crowds gathered at Wallace Park in Perthshire for a special fete which featured a piped procession, dancers and a display from the Golden Lions Freefall parachute team.

The Scottish Duck Derby, at Aberfoyle, in Stirling, is being staged as part of the Jubilee celebrations.

BBC Music Live is staging a series of shows in Scottish towns and cities, coinciding with the Jubilee celebrations.

However, in Glasgow, the Scottish Socialist Party is organising an alternative garden party on Monday at Glasgow Green, with anti-monarchists due to speak.

The Queen left Scotland on Wednesday after a highly successful Jubilee tour, which included a visit to the Scottish Parliament sitting in Aberdeen.
