Mayor successfully defends post
Martin Winter
Doncaster was just one of four authorities to elect a mayor on 5 May.
The elected mayor of Doncaster has successfully defended his position in the local elections.

Labour candidate Martin Winter got 45,742 votes compared to runner-up, Independent Michael Maye's 37,308.

The result was announced following a second count after none of the candidates got a clear 50% of the vote.

Raymond Bartlett (Con), Jessie Credland (Community Group), Michael Cooper (Ind), David Owen (BNP) and Richard Rolt (Green) fell at the first fence.

This year 50% of those eligible to vote turned out, an increase of 23% on the last election in 2002.

The Liberal Democrats did not put forward a candidate for the election.
